How Samus Aran Died on her last mission.

I'm going to take a stab at this, been wanting to do this particular idea for a while, although it's not really her last mission, as you will see.

A Little More than Annoying

Samus knew her shields were all but depleted, and was being careful, but occupied with the underwater pirates chasing her. Still, she was dazed; her nerves were still recovering from the shock of the last hit. Focusing on her heads up display as she entered the sandstone grotto, she made sure there were none of the burrowing beasts in the chamber. What she hadn't noticed was the chute leech that had leapt up into the seaweed above, sensing prey. She didn’t know at first what it was that then landed on her, but as her suit disarticulated, the shields now gone, she realized, too late, what it was.

The ring of sharp teeth dug into her back and shoulders, and she cried in pain while wrestling with the monster. The prey was more than the predator had expected; Samus had almost managed wriggle free, but her strength was failing. She could feel the fast-acting venom digesting her from within, the pain and trauma quickly overwhelming her. Her limbs too weak to support her weight, she flopped to the sandy bottom of the grotto. The molluskoid repositioned itself to secrete the rest of its digestive cocktail over its mammalian prey, only the trace of her hair protruding out from under its mantle. Too weak to draw breath, too faint to concentrate on anything save the extreme physical discomfort she was being subjected to, Samus twitched her fingers, then tried as best she could to relax. At least, soon, she would have peace. The venom proved lethal within half a minute of injection.

Five-hundred meters above the cavern, an ancient Covern data recorder whirred to life. The vital signal had disappeared. Mindlessly, the computer transferred the data to a nearby module, activating for the first time in uncounted millennia. Electric currents ran up and down the module.

All right, where am I? she thought.

Oh, Wrecked Ship save station. Where was I? Right - upper Maridia. I wonder what killed me?

A dim memory of awful pain identified the beast. Well, let's not do that again, shall we?

Erm, could you clarify what you mean by that? Phoenix Wright is a defense attorney, after all. He doesn't try anyone...

I don't think he'd be in a position to tell you. He's never played a Phoenix Wright game before, and has admitted as much.

Hahahahahahaha!

Classic. I love the realistic descriptions of the injuries, and the grimace-inducing pain and gore of Samus' death, before suddenly throwing in a game mechanic. I lol'd, good show.

Thanks! x_x

Hey, it's not too gorey, is it? I don't describe any blood splatters - everything was internal! :p

This actually was how I envisioned save stations for a long time, until someone on this board suggested that they were actually data transfer modules that ran back to command or something similar.

I enjoyed that antiquity thanks :) and i don't think it was described in just enough detail to leave some to the imagination :)

I have a request for a fic.
Write a story about a Space Pirate feeding a Metroid. :metroid:

Yes-- it can be funny or serious, whatever you want.

Here's CC's.

The Meaning of Life

Ridley pointed to the metroid tank. "Press the button. It will answer that question for you."

Nervously, looking back at his dragon-like mentor for a moment, the Space Pirate pressed the button. A small hatch opened in the side of the tank, letting a zoomer wander in from its side-compartment.

The metroid reacted instantly. With a squeal like talons against chalk, it pounced on the hapless gastropod, cracking the zoomer's spikes between its pincers and effortlessly drilling its fangs into the carapace. The lights coming from the metroid flickered, some strange energy crackling through its gelatinous innards. In a few moments, the zoomer stopped struggling. It was dead. The metroid was larger and healthier than before.

"Understand now?"

Wow, that was quite creative Sylux. I liked how you incorporated the setting.

If could compare that part with the Zoomer, when it crawled into into the Metroid cage...
I'd compare it to the 1st Jurassic Park movie when they fed the lamb to the T-rex.
I dislike making comparisons but it reminded me of that. Such strong detail and imagery--Thank you.

Feeding Time

The two space pirates made the rounds of the laboratory.

"Young one," said the older pirate, "I think you are ready to attempt to feed a Metroid."

"I... I am?" said the younger one. He was shocked - he was so incompetent at even the most mundane of tasks, he never thought that he would be given a privilege such as this.

"Yes, of course. I feel that you are more than capable of satisfactorily performing this task."

"This is a great honor, sir."

The older pirate consulted a holographic check list. "Let me see... Specimen 2844 has not been fed in quite some time. Do you know how to feed them?"

"Well, I have never actually seen it done..."

"That is quite alright, it is actually very simple. First, you must step into this small antechamber..." He gestured toward a small room that connected to the area the Metroid inhabited. Fortunately, a strong cordite door stood between the two rooms. "Then you must depress this button, and observe."

"That does not sound as difficult as I imagined it," said the younger pirate, somewhat relieved.

"You may begin whenever you like."

The pirate walked up and opened the door leading to the small antechamber, then stepped inside and looked through the force field window in the door. The Metroid seemed not to notice him - it was hovering in a corner on the opposite side of the room. The pirate tentatively raised a hand and pressed the button.

The door slid open and a conveyor belt started moving beneath his feet, sweeping him unceremoniously into the room. The strong cordite door, which had given the space pirate such confidence just seconds before, slid shut with cold finality. The Metroid immediately turned its attention to him. It flew over and dug its claws into his face, gouging and tearing to get a firm grip on him. When it did, it began sucking. The space pirate was dead in a matter of seconds.

The older pirate consulted his checklist. He scrolled through the database until he arrived at Metroid specimen number 2844, then checked it off and continued his rounds.

For the record, that is where I thought Sylux' story was going.

No, the moment I started on the second, I knew what was going to happen, and I couldn't help but lol when it did in an anticlimactic, Pythonesque sort of way. Sylux' story didn't seem like that.

We're into humorously killing sentient beings these days, aren't we! :metroid:

Well, I would honestly be surprised if the Space Pirates didn't feed incompetent members of their own species to Metroids. But looking back at it, I admit it was extremely predictable.
